Fear and Greed sits at 27: what the market mood is saying

The Crypto Fear and Greed Index reads 27, which puts the market in Fear. That is not the same as panic, and for some investors a fearful market is exactly the point.

The 30-second version
  • The index sits at 27 out of 100, in the Fear band, though it has climbed off the Extreme Fear readings seen earlier in the month.
  • The gauge blends volatility, momentum, volume, and other inputs into a single number for market mood.
  • Contrarian investors treat fear as opportunity and greed as caution, but the index is a sentiment read, not a buy or sell signal.

If you want a one-glance read on how the crypto market feels right now, the Fear and Greed Index gives you a number: 27. That sits in the Fear band, but it is worth noting the direction. Earlier in the month the gauge was down in Extreme Fear, so 27 actually represents a mood that is improving, not deteriorating.

What the number actually measures

The index compresses several inputs, including price volatility, market momentum and volume, and a few others, into a single score from 0 to 100. Zero is extreme fear, 100 is extreme greed. The idea is not precision. It is a quick temperature check on whether the market is anxious or complacent.

How investors use it

The most common framing is contrarian, the old line about being greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy. Deep fear can mark the point where sellers are exhausted, and stretched greed can mark the point where buyers are. But the index describes sentiment, not value, and it says nothing about what happens next. It is one input among several, never a trigger on its own.

See it live

We keep the Fear and Greed gauge updating in real time on our tools page and across the site, so you can always see where the number is now rather than where it was when this was written.

How we use it

The following is ScalpStreet analysis, not reporting. We treat the index as a temperature check, not a signal. A market stuck in fear while prices hold their ground can quietly suggest sellers are running out of energy. But we always pair it with price and Bitcoin dominance. On its own, a sentiment number has never told anyone when to buy or sell.
